I did it, I sold the ZRX. I’ve had that bike for about four years now, she has been one of my favorite bikes I have ever owned. I really don’t know why, but for some reason I am only able to keep any bike for about four years. It must be something in my DNA or some kind of deep seated psychosis. Even if I love the bike and regret selling it the moment it turns the corner with it’s new owner, I can’t seem to hold on to one for any longer than afore mentioned time frame.
It is a little different this time, when I sell I usually have already bought the next bike or have one picked out. That is not the case this time. I really am kinda up in the air about my next ride. I’m looking at all kinds of bikes, Sportsters, old Beemers, late seventies, early eighties Suzuki GS’s and Kawasaki KZ’s, naked goldwings maybe a Yamaha FJ 1200. The only thing I do know about my next bike is she is going to be another naked girl.I have a real thing about naked bikes, could be the era I grew up in, I don’t know. But if they are wrapped in plastic, are a full boat touring model, I just look the other way. I guess the less clothes she has on just appeals to my sense of aesthetics. There is just something in the way a bike looks with no clothes on, the raw mechanical nature of a naked bike. Makes the hair on my arms stand up, gives me goose bumps. I guess that is why I love street trackers and bobbers so much.So as sad as I am to see the old ZRX go, I am just as excited about the search for her replacement this spring. With the economy in such rough shape, I don’t believe I have ever seen such a wide variety of bikes and prices to choose from. It is going to make the decision that much harder to make.
Till Next Time..................................
BEEMER, BEEMER, BEEMER, BEEMER!
ReplyDeleteI mean, I'm just sayin' is all.
Living vicariously through the internet, Surly.
I have to admit, your post on the /5 got me to lookin' at old Beemers. I am currently scratching my chin over a ‘72 R75/5 toaster tank that is absolutely beautiful. A ‘75 R75/6 that has promise. But the one that has me really rubbing my chin and tapping my toe is a ‘83 R65LS. I have always had a thing for that bike. There are a couple of K bikes I'm looking at as well. My head is still on a swivel over a few bikes, so I am taking my time and weighing my options. Time will tell but I am definitely leaning on the old blue and white propeller.
ReplyDeleteFrom the guys I know that have had old BMW's...go with the later ones. Old is cool but the /6's were better than the fives and so on...
ReplyDeleteI had a guy tell me if I bought a /5 it would kill me. Speed wobble from hell. YMMV.
I know what your talking about.
ReplyDeleteMy '72 H2 was so wobbley, I called it the woblin goblin. Truth is, I'm still looking. I'm still not sure what I want to get. There is a guy in Columbus Ohio selling an original '83 1100 Katana. I have always wanted one of those bikes. I think it is a great design, but as a day to day rider, too uncomfortable but a definite head turner. There are so many bikes out there, I'm taking my time and getting one I will be happy with for a while.
