Think Fast

Boy this kid was really on his toes to avoid this wreck. How many of us would be able to escape a mess like this. The planets lined up for him on this one, lucky the lanes were open for him to cross. Looks like a scene out of a movie.

  1. To be honest, on a bike in that situation, you'd be toast. There's no chance of a severe swerve like the driver did. That's a nightmare situation, as there's no fault by the driver, and no chance of avoiding it, unless your forward observation is better than good and you get very lucky. A fortunate escape indeed.

  2. Now shamelessly stolen for mine - hope you don't mind :)

  3. I agree, avoiding that on a bike would be tough but the worst part would be the concrete debris flying everywhere.

  4. I think you would be toast on a bike as well. Check out the crack that develops on the right side of the windshield from flying debris. Not to mention blindly swerving over two lanes to avoid the oncoming catastrophe.

  5. Also, if the dash cam is fixed in position, the car gets almost sideways at one point. You'd have to be a world-class motocrosser to do that on a bike. One of the very few times when four wheels are better :)

    Did I say that?

  6. For shame Richard, for shame. We can't forsake our bikes for the four wheeled variety ;) I agree whole heartedly I don’t think Travis Pastrana could have made it through this mess on a bike. It has snowed almost on a daily basis for the past two weeks here, so no two wheeled travel for me as well.

  7. I always feel just a little guilty if I give in and take the car, but ice and fog are cues to do so these days. Ice because I don't bounce as well as I used to, and fog because it's frightening enough in a car - on a bike you are pretty much helpless.

It's bike weather again now, here. For a while. There may be some more global warming on the way, who knows?

  8. I'm gonna go run my old 2 stroke lawnboy mower to speed up the global warming. I'm tired of winter.

  9. Don't even want to think about being on a bike w/ that coming at me.

  10. Holy cat turfs! I didn't see that coming & I was watching for it! Well, it's 61 degrees in New Orleans with no ice, snow or fog anywhere on the horizon. Time for a bike ride! Bayou Boy 504

  11. Check out the car ahead of the camera car, he is in an even worse position.

Yeah, yeah, warm temps, riding your bike anytime ya want. I'm stuck here staring down the barrel of a major winter storm come Wednesday. I'm pullin my hair out, come on spring.
