I've had a thing for the VTR since they came out in '97. A couple of 955i's have popped onto my radar screen as well, and I love the sound of the Triumph triple. I'm leaning in the Honda's direction cause of the comfier ergos. I'm not getting any younger;)
Your right Surly if you buy a ‘00 or earlier model. With the ‘01 they put higher bars on with a little pullback. I've been riding a buddies ‘03 Superhawk, he has superbike bars http://spieglerusa.com/handlebar-conversion-kit-4284.htm and a Sargent seat http://www.sargentcycle.com/howsvtr1.htm on it. I have to tell ya, it has all day comfort and is a blast to ride. Power wheelies like you would not believe in the first three gears, It’s almost like riding a motard. But the big drawback is it has 48mm carbs that suck down the juice like a wino. Your lucky to get 100 miles out of a tank.
Unk I love the looks of that Triumph, but the ergos are like being on the rack. I’d have to work something out with a chiropractor before I added the Triumph to my stable. guess you could do the superbike bar conversion, but I don’t think it would look good with the rest of the bike.
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to keep the FJ for a while longer. There is just way more arguments for keeping her than letting her go. I just think I’m going to throw a set of sprockets that will give here lower R’s on the freeway, cause she’s set up for the old 55 mph limit. And when your going 85, she’s spinning a bit fast. I do that and she’ll be as close to perfect as perfect could be.
Great bikes, and the sound of the V-Twin will have you buzzing.

ReplyDeleteoooooooooooooh that triumph is sexy
ReplyDeleteShe sure is, has all the curves. But after taking her for a spin on the dance floor, she has me twisted up like a pretzel.
ReplyDeleteThat VTR looks about as comfy as my bike. Which isn't.
ReplyDeleteBoth are pretty bikes. At least the Triumph doesn't have Lucas electronic parts.
