Hammer and Tong

Like last year we missed the scooter races, got a late start again. But there was no shortage of action the rest of the day. As we rolled in for ThunderDrome II, the pit bike races were just about to get under way. Last year there were four competitors for the pit bike race. This year, there were about twenty, so we were treated to three ten lap heat races and a final. And the racing was pretty damn good. Each heat had two riders that went at it lap after lap except for the first race.Heat race 1 was dominated by the rider on number four here. He pretty much left everyone else like they were tied to a pole.
Off of turn two, there is a pretty good dip in the track and the some of the racers were testing their suspensions to the limit, like this YZ80. They were also doing some pretty good wheelies off the same turn.

I thought the CR125 would be the class of the field, but the YZ80 and CR battled it out for third and Fourth.

The leaders of the pack consisted of these two boys on a Chinese 110 and a Honda CRF100, who went at it like there was a basket of freshly made cheese sandwiches waiting for them at the end of the race. There was never more than a couple of bike lengths between them the whole race.

That little 110 was surprisingly fast and it's master was not afraid to put the whip to her. Back markers were dispatched with relative ease.
He won by a hair, with the fourteen old on the CRF on his heels. That kid can ride I thought he would make a late race pass for the win. A back marker slowed him just enough to ruin a photo finish. There seemed to be about as many spectators as last falls races, but field of competitors was about four times larger. The racing was way better than the first event and we couldn't have had more fun if we had a tank of nitrous oxide. There was some heavy action in the moped races, but that will have to wait.

I Gotta Get Me One of These

Are these bumper cars the shit or what. The brainchild of Tom Wright San Diego resident, these little puppies are powered by Kawasaki and Honda 750 mills. I imagine I could make my hair even greyer wringing one of these carnival rides on crack out.

ThunderDrome II

On April 30th, racers from every corner of the Continent will be taking to the track in anger. They have a score to settle, it stems from last Octobers first event at the Dorais Park Velodrome in over twenty years. The event organizers wondered what could be done to improve on last years inaugural event. The driving forces behind the racing decided, hey lets let them duke it out in a no holds barred elbow to elbow championship. So this year we will be treated to a three race series. The first taking place at the Dorais Velodrome on April 30th as mentioned abovethunderdrome_ad_pbr The second race in the three race series (ThunderDrome III)will take place at Gilmore Car Museum Kalamazoo, MI. 9:00 AM.to Dusk on June 12th. It will be run in conjunction with their Vintage Motorcycle event What more does one need to get excited about this event. It's like being shot out of a cannon into a pile of nekked ladies. Like winning the lotto and finding out you also won a ten years supply of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Need I go on, in other words, you'll find yourself staring at the ceiling and sobbing like a baby on a nightly basis for missing such a spectacle. Then we find ourselves back at the Dorais Velodrome on September 12th for the championship races. The top 15 leaders from every class at every event will be awarded championship points. A good time will be had by both competitors and spectators. So if you have been wondering to yourself, what in the hell am I going to do for entertainment on April 30th, June 12th and September 12th, I think the blanks on your dance card have just been filled in. As an added bonus, J.J. and I will be in attendance and who knows, Evel Knievel just might show up.

The Cure For E.D.

Big Toe finished his mini drag bike project, brought it by Curly's place and let us have at it. I don't want to tell you that this thing was too much fun, but after riding this baby, you might have to call the Cialis hot line. You may get an erection that would put you in serious jeopardy of surpassing the four hour mark. I felt like I was twelve again as I pinned the throttle and felt that familiar old speed wobble rearing it's ugly head. As Big Toe demonstrates belowBig Toe decided to use this mini as a pit bike and has began construction on a more sharply focused unit to take to the mini bike drags. I haven't a chance to get a peek at the new one, but if the prototype is any indication, the new bike will be a absolutely hair raising ride.
We took turns racing up and down the street until the an member of the local law enforcement community pulled around the corner and did a slow pass by. He didn't stop, but made his point. I was going to ask him if he would mind waiting at the end of the street and giving us a reading with his radar. Curly and Big Toe didn't think this was the best idea, but I think he would have obliged. From start to finish, he only has about five hundred invested it this bike. Not too bad, as I see lesser mini's for sale on craigslist for more than that everyday. Now I can't wait to get my sweaty little hands on the fire breather, should be a blast if I don't throw it down the road.Dragbike right rear Till Next Time.............
